Parental mental adjustment
We know that parents experience great pressure when a cleft baby
is born, with feelings ranging from shock to disappointment, anxiety,
pain, or guilt. These are normal emotional reactions, and we know
that you will require some time to adjust.
Once you accept the fact that you have a very special child to
love and care for you are on the way to solving all the problems.
Your child can be a normal person and contribute to society. We
are very happy for you and your child, and hope that you will actively
cooperate with the treatment program. If on the other hand you are
still unable to accept the fact of your childˇ¦s deformity and are
at a loss for how to relieve your feelings, we urge you to contact
our Foundation as soon as possible. Or, consult with your local
craniofacial center. Our trained staff is happy to offer you all
necessary assistance.
In addition, the members of the [Blessed Parentsˇ¦ Association]
are eager to share their experiences with you, which can go far
in helping your mental adjustment. Parents associations of cleft
children are very helpful in the persons in these groups have experience
in coping with problems associated with a cleft child.
